Street Lights for My Neighborhood

Lighting Districts

A lighting district is a defined area—such as a street, neighborhood, or subdivision—where a majority (at least 51%) of property owners agree to install and maintain streetlights at their own expense.

In Sycamore Township, the Board of Trustees may establish a lighting district on any dedicated state highway, county road, or township road. Creation of a new lighting district must begin with a petition from residents.

Costs are shared by property owners within the district and are based on street frontage. Charges are included on each property owner’s tax bill.
